Well the deadline is rapdly approaching (like its Monday people) and I’ve had to change my back cover yet again. The type was too hard to read, and I got all the measurments wrong. So, I had to rearrange some of the type on it, which I was quite annoyed about, but I guess it couldn’t be helped. If I’d have got the measurments right in the first place, it wouldn’t have happened.

The image went a bit dotty because I saved it as a different format… I’m not sure what format to save it to have the best quality on here yet. I’m still learning I guess!

For a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon, Chris our tutor puts aside some time for us to do some bookmaking. I have to say, it is a skill worth learning! The amount of different ways, and differents styles you can do, amazing!
Anyway. We’ve been set with the task of making a book, (with content this time) which has to have some element on it that isn’t usually used in book making. I have used tracing paper in my book so far, and have started to hand trace poems, or haiku, on to the pages. I think it will give it that “hand crafted” effect that some handmade books lack. I also think I’m going to use some sort of fastening, but I’m not sure on what yet, I think some sort of tie might be nice. If you have any ideas, they are welcome!

This is an advertisment project that I think I touched on in an earlier post, but I decided a couple of weeks ago which charity I’m doing. I actually hadn’t heard anything like it until I had researched some charities, so I think I can make it quite an original advertisment campaign if I try hard enough.
My charity is called Cancer and Bio- Detection Dogs and I think they are amazing to be honest. Apparently, when someone has diabetes, their odour changes dramatically when their sugar levels go up and down, and dogs can sense this. So before the person goes into a coma, the dogs can warn them of it before it happens. I’m probably not explaining very well, so just click on this link!
So for this project we have to create at least two forms of advertising. One of mine will be a magazine ad (yet to decide wha sort of magazine, because of target audience), and the other will be an information pack, that would be sent to your door if you required more information and a donation form off of the website.
So far, I have the bookle nearly sorted for the information pack, and the envelope that you would send the donation form back in. So I have lots to do yet! Here is part of the booklet (taken from Illustrator, haven’t printed and made it up yet). I probably won’t use these colours though.

More updates soon hopefully

Made a few changes to my back covers, and also changed the opacity of my designs (only slightly) so they print out lighter. So the type wasn’t arranged great on the back so I’ve tried something different and I think it looks loads better. I’ve tried to make it look like I haven’t just left the credits as an after thought (
) which is what it had looked like before. I also had to make the barcode bigger, (which is a bit annoying as they look hideous!) but I guess its nothing that can’t be helped.
Oh, and I also did the most STUPIDEST thing, and put the same track listing for all 3 CDs. Yeah, good job I noticed before deadline… So here are all three, with the proper track listing too!

I don’t think I’ve actually made a post about this project, which is quite bad! This project involved doing 3 random searches on Wikipedia, and then searching the article through the LIFE archives, to get a photo to use our three book covers. The deadline is actually tomorow, so here is what I’ve come up with.
My first book cover is ‘Laguna’, which I think is quite a weird term, (I thought it would be Lagoon?) but the LIFE archive came up with this image;

And with some tweeking (and added layers of cause) on Adobe Photoshop have come up with this…

I liked this because its quite mysteries, but interesting at the same time, but it still has the ater factor about it.
My second book cover is ‘RAF Squadron’ which I was quite pleased about, because I thought it would be quite interesting. Here is the image I was given from the archive.

And here is my book cover… (My favourite of the three!)

And finally, my last cover, which is ‘New York City Subway’, and I ended up getting a really old black and white photo, so I knew it would turn out diffrently to the others. This is the original image.

And my cover

I wonder what our next project will be…

A recent update for my CD design. I’ve played about woth the colours so much that I’m getting a bit sick of it! But I think I’m getting there. These are all three Cd covers (front and back of booklet) together.

Cd Cover one on its own.

Cd Cover two on its own.

And Finally Cd Cover three on its own.

I’ve recently had a go at creating the back cover and the two spines too.

Then their is planning for the inside covers…

Been playing around with ideas again, and I think I’ve come up with a fairly good idea. Its just making it into three different designs and what everyone likes really. And plus, I really need my cover sorted now, the inside needs doing!

Last Thursday me and the other Graphics lot took a visit to London, to look at the LCC. I have to sayy.. I was very dissapointed. In my opinion, they prided themselves too much on how many people apply, and how many people are’nt lucky enough to get in, other than trying to make a good impression on the open day. Maybe its because I have been to other friendly institutes such as Norwich and Lincoln, but I don’t think I am expecting too much.
I might apply anyway, just to see if I actually had a chance to get into a University like that, but we will see. I just think that it was a great shame, as I was beginning to grow on the idea of actually staying in London, whereas I wouldn’t have given the idea a chance before.
At the moment its a toss up beween NUCA and Lincoln University, but I think I will have to decide closer to the time of interview.

Yes, its November, and I think today its made it pretty clear that Winter has settled in. I haven’t really got much too share with you in terms of imagry, so its just a quick update on what projects we’re dealing with right now.
CD DESIGN
This is a typography project, so I’m hoping I can get some pretty good ideas across! After last years project on designing my own type, I have really gotten into typography. I’ve had a few ideas, but nothing thats got me terribly excited as of yet. I’ll post good ideas as they come to me I guess.
Personal Development (Uni Stuff)
Went tooo Lincoln on Saturday just goneee, and went to look at the University there. I quite liked it, so I’m thinking its going down as a second choice, cause I still think Norwich is the one for me. It has nice accomodation, and from what I’ve heard the studios are nice too. I didn’t stay too long as I wasn’t feeling to great! Going to the UCAS fair with College in a couple of weeks, and then the day after back to London to see the LCC.
Book Cover Design
Our joint group with the photography lot, we have to make three Book covers, based on three random searches on Wikipedia. Mine was Laguna, RAF Squadron and New Your City Subway. I took some pictures of newspapers today to support my cover on New York City Subway, and like some of the results.

From the Financial Times, lol
Adverstising
Last but not least, it advertising on a Friday. We’ve been set a new brief to create an advert for a charity of our choice. I’ve got a few ideas, but kinda want to work them out before putting anything on here. But will do soon, promise!
In the week off, I tried to do as much work as possible, but found myself decorating my brothers room. Also, driving is going well, so I’m hoping that it won’t be too long till I can take my test. More updates soooooon
